Vehicle electrical system development

We know the processes and development methodologies at German OEMs as well as at various internationally active suppliers. On behalf of the ProSTEP iVIP, we are jointly responsible for the maintenance and further development of the VDA standards KBL and VEC. With modern IT solutions, we enable our customers to make technical innovations off the beaten track without losing their bearings in the data jungle.

The wiring harness is one of the most complex parts of a modern vehicle. Accordingly, the demands on the associated processes in development and production are high.

The KBL (Harness Description List) und der VEC (Vehicle Electrical Container) are official recommendations of the VDA for the exchange of standardised product data in the field of the vehicle electrical system.

Both standards were and are being developed with significant participation of 4Soft employees.

We optimise and integrate the processes of OEMs and suppliers around the data exchange standards in order to reduce costs and increase the quality of cooperation.

Process optimisation

The analysis of the existing processes is the first step on the way to an integrated wiring harness development. After gaining a clear understanding of the current state, we will show you how to improve process and data consistency using the KBL standard and what you will gain by doing so.

As an IT consulting company, 4Soft has extensive experience in the field of wire harness development in the automotive industry.

We can support you in process optimisation in the following ways:

  • Analysis of existing processes and system landscapes.
  • Data and process modelling (preferably with UML)
  • Definition of interfaces and exchange formats based on KBL or VEC
  • Internal process optimisation and optimisation of the interface between automotive manufacturers and suppliers

System integration

After process optimisation, we select and integrate systems and tools so that the processes can run smoothly in day-to-day operations. To do this, we first evaluate different systems and design a customised solution. This is then implemented, integrated, documented and introduced.

As a product-independent project and consulting company, 4Soft has extensive experience with IT systems and standards in the field of wire harness development.

In the area of system integration, we are happy to support you with the following methods and approaches:

  • Analysis of the existing system landscape
  • Evaluation, selection and integration of systems
  • Adaptation (“customising”) of PDM systems and authoring tools
  • Implementation of components (for example for import/export, rule checker, …)

On request, we will be happy to contact you and work out an offer tailored to your needs.

VEC RDF Toolkit

12.03.2020
The availability of the VEC (Vehicle Electric Container) as an OWL ontology opens up a wide range of new possibilities for using vehicle electrical system data in practice. The VEC ontology is the basis for using vehicle electrical system data in knowledge graphs or as interoperable linked data. It also provides access to the technologies of the semantic web stack.

KBL4all - The free KBL solution for everyone!

12.03.2020
The KBL4all tool generates a conveniently navigable HTML report or PDF report from a given KBL file. This presents the user with all the contents of the KBL in an attractive and easily searchable structure.

VEC2Go - 3D cable harnesses on the tablet

12.03.2014
With the availability of WebGL also on mobile devices, it is possible to render even complex 3D graphics locally. Resource-hungry streaming from special servers is no longer necessary. This opens up completely new application possibilities for information that already exists in the form of KBL or VEC data.
